The Hugo Awards are the oldest and most prestigious awards in speculative fiction, recognizing and celebrating the very best in the genre. The Awards are made each year in categories set up by the World Science Fiction Society. But in addition to those categories, each Worldcon committee may choose to create a special category for that year only, and the DisCon III committee has decided to create a category of Best Video Game for the Awards in 2021.
2020 – which is the year covered by the 2021 Awards – has seen more of us spending more time gaming than we could ever have expected. This special category will give fans the opportunity to celebrate the games that have meant something to them this year, and to recognize the creativity and innovation behind them.
